Job Summary The Winemaker reports to the Senior Winemaker and is responsible for day‑to‑day winemaking, wine quality maintenance, training and directing team members. Key areas include support between production teams, ensuring priorities, protocols, cost effectiveness, accuracy and safety, while making White, Red or Rose wines for domestic and export. Essential Functions Directly responsible for varietal winemaking from grape to bottle, guided by senior management. Direct lab analysis and use results to maintain wine quality. Plan finishing and blending for bottling, set priorities based on demand, adapting to changes. Write process orders for operations and review prior to approval. Complete blending/fining trials and other experiments as directed. Taste wine at various stages, participate in tastings, verify overall quality, travel to other facilities as needed. Work with Vineyard Team to assess vine health and grape quality, advising on harvest timing. Assist with forecasting and ordering of winemaking supplies, contributing to material budget. Support Operations Team in Cellar Operations oversight and staff direction. Lead safety policies, audits, incident investigations, training, and be part of the safety team. Set and achieve Wine Quality standards, GMPs and sanitation schedules. Contribute to development or restructuring of blends. Attend seminars and classes for continual education. Cover Senior Winemaker duties in absence. Proactively manage and find solutions to problems. Job duties may change at any time. Other Functions Complete understanding of enological process from grapes to blending, exposure to various methods. Participate and train Assistant Winemakers, Enologists, and Interns. Communicate confidently in front of groups, represent brands and company. Handle multiple projects simultaneously. Exhibit excellent organoleptic skills at all stages. Strong aptitude and knowledge of wines. Large winery experience and understanding of operations. Lead department and manage team to success. Set priorities, work independently within guidelines, good time management. Self‑starter, open communication with other departments. Multitask, accurate, timely, fast‑paced environment. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills with attention to detail. Prepare weekly/monthly reports for Senior Director of Winemaking. Attend seminars for continued education. Leadership abilities and high integrity. BS/BA in Enology/Viticulture, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Food Science, Microbiology or equivalent. 7 years minimum post‑graduation, multi‑site experience (minimum 2 sites). Passion for wine quality with understanding of cost impact. Good understanding of lab and wine processing equipment. Comfortable in bargaining unit environments. Adaptable in changing environments. Big‑picture thinking while attention to detail. Analytical thinker with subjective decision‑making ability. Resolution management skills. Strong oral and written communication. Keen listening skills. Manage cross‑functional professionals. Strong computer skills, proficient in Excel. Physical Demands Work at heights up to 45 feet. Handle fast‑paced, high‑pressure environment. Indoor and outdoor work, exposure to equipment and noise. Perform bending, stooping, standing, twisting. Compensation Hiring salary range: $97,200 – $121,500.
