Job Title: Teacher- Special Education, Upper School (SEI Endorsement Required)

Supervisor: Prinicipal

Start Date: July 1, 2026 - June 30, 2027

Position Type: Full-Time, 11 Months

Hours: School Hours, The Principal will discuss specific arrival and departure times.

Compensation: Codman Academy Charter Public School follows a compensation scale based on years of direct experience. 1 year experience starts at $60,000, with 16 years direct experience starting at $110,444 annually.

Position Overview

Codman Academy Charter Public School seeks a dedicated Special Education Teacher, Upper School to provide individualized, high-quality instruction and support to students with diverse learning needs. The ideal candidate will be responsible for implementing inclusive and specialized instruction, developing and managing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), and collaborating with general education teachers to ensure that all students receive equitable access to rigorous, engaging learning experiences. This role requires an SEI (Sheltered English Immersion) endorsement and a strong commitment to serving students with disabilities in an inclusive or resource setting.

Key Responsibilities

Instruction & Student Support
  • Provide direct, differentiated instruction to students with disabilities in inclusive, small-group, and pull-out settings.

  • Implement evidence-based interventions to support students in accessing the EL Education curriculum and Illustrative Mathematics (IM) curriculum.

  • Utilize universal design for learning (UDL) and multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) to meet the diverse learning needs of all students.

  • Modify and scaffold lessons to ensure accessibility for students with disabilities, including those with cognitive, behavioral, and language-based learning challenges.

  • Foster a student-centered, strengths-based approach to learning, focusing on independence and self-advocacy.

IEP Development & Compliance
  • Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) in compliance with state and federal special education regulations.

  • Assess students’ strengths and areas of need through formal and informal assessments, using the data to drive instruction.

  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including IEP progress reports, evaluation reports, and accommodation tracking.

  • Lead IEP meetings, collaborating with families, general education teachers, specialists, and service providers to develop and adjust student goals.

Collaboration & School Engagement
  • Work closely with general education teachers, ESL specialists, and related service providers to ensure coordinated support for students with disabilities.

  • Co-plan and co-teach lessons that promote full inclusion and equitable access to the EL Education and IM curriculum.

  • Build strong relationships with families by maintaining regular communication and providing resources to support student learning at home.

  • Participate in professional development, data meetings, and school-wide initiatives to strengthen special education programming and inclusion practices.

Behavioral & Social-Emotional Support
  • Implement positive behavior intervention strategies (PBIS) and restorative justice practices to create a supportive learning environment.

  • Provide small-group and individualized social-emotional learning (SEL) support in collaboration with school counselors and interventionists.

  • Serve as an advocate and mentor for students, fostering confidence and a growth mindset.

Qualifications & ExperienceRequired:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field (Master’s preferred).

  • Massachusetts teaching certification in Moderate Disabilities (PreK-8).

  • SEI (Sheltered English Immersion) Endorsement required.

  • Experience teaching in an inclusive or resource special education setting.

  • Strong understanding of IEP development, differentiated instruction, and progress monitoring.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor to support student learning and overall school success.

Preferred:
  • Experience implementing EL Education and Illustrative Mathematics (IM) curriculum.

  • Background in co-teaching models and inclusion practices.

  • Knowledge of assistive technology and AAC tools to support diverse learners.

  • Strong collaboration and communication skills with families and colleagues.
