An SAP ABAP on HANA job description involves designing, developing, and maintaining high-performance SAP applications by leveraging the SAP HANA database and ABAP programming language. Key responsibilities include using HANA-specific technologies like CDS views and AMDP, optimizing ABAP code for performance by pushing processing to the database layer, and collaborating with functional teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.


Core responsibilities

• Development:

Design, code, and test SAP applications using ABAP, with a focus on optimizing for the SAP HANA platform.

• Performance optimization:

Analyze and tune ABAP code to improve performance by moving logic to the database layer using techniques like AMDP (ABAP Managed Database Procedures).

• Data modeling:

Develop and work with data models, including CDS (Core Data Services) views, for efficient data retrieval and reporting.

• Integration:

Develop OData services to enable seamless communication between SAP systems and other applications.

• Collaboration:

Work with business analysts and functional consultants to gather requirements and ensure solutions meet business needs.

• Troubleshooting and support:

Debug issues, perform performance tuning, and provide technical support for existing applications.

• Documentation:

Create and maintain technical documentation for all development work.

• Mentorship:

Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior developers on best practices and coding standards.


Required skills and qualifications

• Technical Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of ABAP programming and ABAP Objects.
  • Experience with SAP HANA database and technologies like CDS views, AMDP, and OData services.
  • Familiarity with performance tuning and code optimization techniques for a HANA environment.
  • Experience with ABAP development for S/4HANA and SAP Fiori.
  • Strong experience working in SAP ECC on ABAP development
