Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) Location: Ithaca, NY
Coverage Area: Tioga and Tompkins Counties, NY
Job Type: Part-Time (26 Hours Per Week)
Setting: Community-Based, Home and School Visits
Important Note:
- Office attendance required three days per week in Ithaca, NY for team meetings and collaboration.
- Community-based work includes visits to homes, schools, and other locations throughout Tioga and Tompkins Counties.
Summary: We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to join our Youth Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) Team. This role provides comprehensive psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and medication management services for children, adolescents, and young adults ages 10-21. The PMHNP will work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team to support youth and families across Tioga and Tompkins Counties.
Key Responsibilities: - Provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, assessments, diagnoses, and treatment planning for youth ages 10-21.
- Prescribe, monitor, and manage psychotropic medications in accordance with New York State regulations and best practices.
- Deliver ongoing psychiatric care and psychopharmacological treatment to support youth and family goals.
- Collaborate closely with the Youth ACT interdisciplinary team and external healthcare providers to ensure coordinated, comprehensive care.
- Participate actively in clinical case reviews, treatment planning meetings, and interdisciplinary team discussions.
- Educate youth, families, and caregivers regarding psychiatric conditions, medications, side effects, and treatment options.
- Provide consultation, training, and clinical guidance to team members regarding behavioral health conditions and medication management.
- Develop and maintain positive, trusting relationships with youth and families.
- Complete timely and accurate documentation within the electronic health record (EHR) system.
- Maintain compliance with all New York State practice standards, regulatory requirements, and agency policies.
Qualifications & Experience: - Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) with a specialization in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing required.
- Current certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) required.
- Active New York State Nurse Practitioner license required.
- Current DEA registration required.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner required.
- Experience prescribing psychotropic medications to children and adolescents with multiple psychiatric diagnoses required.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct psychiatric evaluations, establish DSM-based diagnoses, develop treatment recommendations, and manage medication regimens.
- Strong knowledge of psychopharmacology and psychiatric treatment modalities.
- Experience working within interdisciplinary treatment teams preferred.
- Proficiency with electronic health records and computer-based documentation systems required.
- Valid driver's license and ability to maintain insurability throughout employment required.
